hey guys, I just picked up a 98 disco and was wondering what type of trans fluid to use and what color it should be. Mine right now is the color of old oil?

yeah i mean it is brown and sum what transparent. I am use to red or dark red. Im just wondering if it needs to be changed or if maybe someone (befor me) just added what they had.

Its generally a good idea to change all fluids as soon as you buy, for peace of mind. For the first 20 miles or so, then you'll forget about the colour of the oil and wonder when you incurred a severe brain injury that made you buy a land rover.

yes change it ,should be red goes brown when its past it

yeah Im gona do a full fluid change and tune up be for venturing out. This is my first land rover and was also wondering how stiff the steering should be. Im use to easy turns in my work truck. It just seems allitle stiff to me. There is no noise from the pump or suspension parts.

Try driving a series before you complain about the discos steering...

Should actually be smooth(ish)...check the PS fluid too.

Thanks. Im gona change out the fliud and check the steering dampener and see if that works. Im just not used to the stiffness of the steering. Another question, how much of a lift can I put on the disco befor I need to make major mods(ie regear, change axle shafts, driveshaft exc) and what size tires can I go to in relation to the lift. Im not looking to make a huge mud truck Im just wanting to get allitle more ground clearance for a trail/hunting rig?
