Setting 8.......that'll be a new injector or 2 in the near future then:D

As 8 is the equivalent of 3 with a Bosch MAF I wouldn't have thought that my injectors will fail yet, now if I had set it to 10 I would really be worried (mainly for my driving license):)

So, from what I'm reading, having the Synergy on high performance settings will wear out the injectors quicker?

No - I can't see that as correct at all. Not wear them out per se.

I would agree that a Synergy might well show up things that are already weak and on the point of failing anyway.

If you are trying to get a bit more performance from any engine it needs to be in pretty good condition to begin with.

Fitting a Synergy as a way of restoring power to an ailing motor would not be a good idea.

Singvogel.

My Rover 75 has been on the high power setting on the Synergy since I got it, I've done 25,000 miles since then and (touch wood) the injectors are still fine :)

It's only been moved back to medium since diesel went over £1.40 a litre :(

Did you miss my post? 25k miles on the power setting, no issues.

The engine had done 95k before I got the car, according to the service history it's still on the original injectors.

Not too many high mileage users on here, I think Singvogel is about the highest mileage Freelander Synergy user, but on the Rover forums you'll find plenty of diesel engine owners with gen 1 Synergys on them for many miles, very few injector problems with them either :)

Just to be clear, the diesel in the Rover 75 is the same as in the Td4, BMW M47, only a slightly stronger bottom end on the Freelander spec :)

Rover Ron does state that injectors are a serviceable item (and in my opinion always have been) You'd be surprised how many bus and commercial vehicle operators used to turn the fuel down on the older style injector pumps (pre common rail) just to get through the annual mot which resulted in pathetic performance but no black smoke (caused by injectors not being serviced)

Hi, no I didn't miss your post. Thanks for the advice. My freelander has 97k on the clock, but seems to have been very well looked after and maintained judging by all the receipts.

It runs very well. I'm going to change the crankcase breather filter at the weekend, to be safe, and I'll change the engine oil for a start. I think I'll get a Synergy box in the next few weeks.

I'm also thinking of doing the EGR bypass too, but will remove and clean this weekend while I'm tinkering.

Thanks for all the replies!!

Heres the cut and thrust of it... If you have an failing injector, running a synergy will show it up....
Keep running the synergy on a high setting WILL make that injector fail sonner.
At the onset of an injector failing ,lowering you synergiesv settin or turning it off will extend the life of it...continue to run the synergies at the same setting and you'll end up like I did .." engine cutting out in the fast lane with no where to go.
Also I dare you to open up your synergy......"mine was full of verdiggris across the joints causing misfiring and lumpy running.....that said I had at the time had the unit for 4years
I've not usd it for 2 years and roveron in their favour are willing to part ex it against a new one with a maf compensator which I will more than likley do but I will never run it over a med/med setting for any time as I went through 5injectors using the high setting and not one has failed since..........I also carry 4new injectors with me at all times just in case. Hence with the new switch option it looks like a more appealing product as you can limit from the cab the amount of time you increase the pressure on the injectors.

I'm not slating the units.....I loved mine...you just need to be aware of the long term consequences.

mine is set to 5 with bosch maf but my switch stays on green in the cab only use 5 ie red on switch from time to time and after a mounth of running it it fine even say better than fine just done a run to coast and on the m25 carpark 40 miles of solid traffic still go 42.5 mpg
