Hi
I am new to this forum. I have driven discoveries for 12 years and love them. however, my current discovery is causing me some pain! My vehicle is a disco 3 TDVS HSE 2006 automatic. Last year I had the timing belt changed, the ERVs blocked off, a new alternator, a new battery, and gear box oil changed. The car has now done 105K miles.

The last work done was the gear box oil change in November last year.

Since then the car has been sluggish getting into 1st gear. The car now shows an intermittent transmission failure warning when cold when you select reverse, and also is sluggish when automatically selecting from auto park to 1st and from 1st to 2nd gear.

I have booked it in for diagnostics on Friday, but wondered whether I should prepare myself for the shock of work to be done and the consortium of bankers I may need to get together to pay the bill.

Can anyone here give me some advice or guidance of what I can expect a landrover dealership to tell me I need fixing?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help...:(

The Merc auto box connected to their excellent 2.7 turbo diesel can also give problems around this mileage. It is caused by dirty oil laying down bits on the 'conductor plate'.
This can be replaced fairly easily by removing the gearbox sump and costs about £150 from memory.
I'm not sure if the D3 box is similar, but I have heard that changing the oil can sometimes cause problems by disturbing dirt within the oil.
It may be worth changing the oil and filter again and hoping for the best.

Hi VinceMcDonald. Thank you for your reply. Ok that does sound very plausible and may be affordable without the consortium of bankers!!! Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts - much appreciated.:) I will make sure I post the 'outcome' following the diagnostics on Friday...

Thank you for your welcome. This is a pivotal moment for me...really want to keep existing or get newer Disco, but the cost (in my experience) of keeping them on the road each year is so high. In the last three years I have spent £5.5K on servies and repairs. Does this get better with the newer models?

Auto fluid changes are good things to do but as mentioned they can lead to issues. The new oil is very good at cleaning all the crap thats built up over the last however many miles and dumping it somewhere else.... Have you considered having the oil changed again?
