hi all,
been lurking in the background for a while, now taken the time to register. first question,
wife came home yesterday from 150 mile round trip now her 02 td4 freelander is chucking out blake smoke under hard acceleration, any ideas where to start

Mileage isn't that high then. I know diesels will smoke when under hard acceleration if they've been driven gently for a while; build up of sh!t in the exhaust being pushed out.
I wouldn't imagnie the piston rings have failed yet. Does the turbo sound ok still? Is there a noticable reduction in performance?

no this is real black smoke plumes of the stuff but only under hard acceleration. no other noises or lack of power!!!

Well to be honest I'm at a loss. Lets hope some one on Landy Zone has an idea.
Welcome to Landy Zone by the way ;)

try lookin for a split intake hose to start with normally the one from intercooler to intake or egr 90 degree elbow pipe split, good luck.
that would be a start as a few things could cause ya smokin

As for the smoking bit, like LRGUY says,Tell HER to check all the hoses for splits, I noticed on mine that the LH side one rubs on the underside
Listen out for a hiss aswell
Mine chuck out black smoke aswell but i car'nt afford to be without it at the mo Work van yer see;)

PS Welcome

mine also went on the 90degree part from airbox to egr valve also been told a faulty boost pressure sensor can cause same problem only £14 from landrover so maybe worth a try hope this helps:rolleyes:

Well in my opinion Yes! made a lot of difference to mine, much smoother and a lot more poke :D (and Smoke, till i get it sorted) the auto box feels a lot smoother aswell.
He's a decent bloke aswell, I'm sure he dose a 30day return thingy if yer not happy with it, So nowt to loose really:cool:

thanks for all your replies, turned out to be 40mm split in the 90 degree hose to the egr, would you believe could not see or feel it until i took it off.

I have just had the same problem. Turbo hose split. It was spitting oil out of the split. Patched it tempereraly with duck tape...and the other side split. Cost £30 for both. The longer pipe on the offside is a real pig to change due to the jubilee clip being hard to get at. Also was advised to change the engine breather which sits behind the injectors (£35) which I did. No smoke now but the car is still running very sluggish. A bit pricey for these little parts but wait for it, just had a clutch a dual mass fly wheel at £855. Thinking of getting a push bike next.
