Just bought my first ever Range Rover, X Reg 4.6 Vogue Auto with 90k. Just done a 200 mile drive home from collecting it and what a great car to drive - except the 20mpg !!!
I expected there to be electrical glitches but, apart from the Cruise not working everything else seems to work perfectly.
Q's are
Is there anything simple I can check with the cruise control - the main switch lights up and you can hear the res switch click but that's it....any clues?
There is a low speed noise which only appears when backing off the throttle from the rear end - I'm assuming its the diff or transfer box - is there an easy way to tell and does it sound terminal?
It also appears to have no problems throwing heat from the passenger side but cool on drivers side, unless the temp is set to 28?
Apart from that, I appear to have a stonking car in amazing condition as not a spot of rust anywhere.
Thanks in advance and love the site - have spent the last 4 days trawling through it.

Cruise control, the vacuum pipes perish, in particular, check the one that goes to the brake pedal.
Rear Diff, check/change the oil.
Blend motor problem most likely, do you have a book symbol on the HEVAC?

Do we take it that this means that you've dumped the Gaylander and got yourself a hetero car?
Maybe we'll see a bit more of you around here.

Oh and the symbol is known either as the "cheque book" or the "bible", I'm sure that you can work out why.
(Other religious tracts are available)

Should be an open wallet symbol!! Ex hairdresser hey?

I have checked under the bonnet today for the vacuum pipe to hopefully sort out the cruise control. I have located a plastic pipe which seems to run from under the master cylinder but goes nowhere!!! I have also found a heavy duty power cable in red with subzero written on the sides. This is coming from the cabin and into the engine bay but, again, isn't connected. Any clues to either or where I access the vacuum pipes from to check for the cruise?
Cheers. Chris (Still got a big smile and still 20mpg !!)

Have you downloaded RAVE???

If not, can be found here... Manuals

This will give you the Workshop Manual(s) so should give you a good starter for ten!

I have downloaded RAVE but cant seem to find anything in it relating to a manual etc. Lots of files and bloody confusing :confused2:

If you are opening RAVE correctly, you should get a splash page with RAVE in the centre, click on that and you will get a list of models covered, click on Range Rover and you get a list whick includes owners handbook, workshop manual, overhaul manual etc.
You cannot just access it via explorer for instance.

The Subzero cable will be from an aftermarket subwoofer or the like which the previous owner has perhaps removed.
You might find the other end in the boot somewhere. Leave it disconnected.

Congrats on purchase, i'm pretty much in the same boat - had a go at fixing my cruise control. I found that all three pipes that fit into the cruise unit at the far right corner of the engine bay ( as you look from the front ), were perished and split - now all replaced, so hopefully that will sort it. I only used about 8" of hosing - the long one that goes across the firewall was long eonough just to cut off the end and reattach. Best of luck - i have just removed two blend motors and am in the process of getting some replacements - for now I have manually set the positions and the motors are dangling !
I was ruthless with the ducting !

Thanks for that Carnutter. I'll have a check in the morning. I'm fearful of the blend motors - I still get heat in the drivers side at 27/28 on the climate so I'll just grin and bear it for now. Be good to hear how you get on
