HI, let me introduce myself, live in Sheffield and just bought a 1996 Discovery with the 3.9l V8 engine,,, very happy with it, its fully loaded with electric leather seats and everything

but I am having a slight crunch 50% of the time when shifting from first to second gear, its not a huge thing and at first i though i might be just changeing up with revs too high as used to a car,,, but I am now thinking it might be a problem that could get worse???

can anyone give me any advice on the matter please???

Hi "n" welcome

Regular problem with the syncro on 2nd going but nothing to worry about, when I bought ours I noticed it on the test drive but now it dont do it much :)
You have to learn how to drive Land Rovers, no boy racer stuff & change gear slowly.

Its about changing gears when you are at the right speed, if you get really good at this you dont even need the clutch. So the 50% of the time you are getting the crunch, its when your taking it too far in 1st.

That sounds about right I guess,, its only from first to second and I have noticed with carefull gear changes its ok

lol,, have to say on the boy racer comment going to a landy,,, my other car is a 2003 Impreza WRX all spec'd up!!! hehe

so there is a massive change.

like the disco though,, its a bit of fun for playing around in and when i feel like sitting up high on my throne

but the 11mpg i got today is pants!!! i thought the WRX was bad at 18round town!

Well I can understand why yeh got gear change problems now, and as for fuel get a DIESEL 30mpg+

mine chatters going from 2nd to 1st I've found booting the loud pedal as I change out of 2nd does the trick :) it'll go for ages like that dont worry too much.
My 4th also has to be at the right revs to change without a crunch :)

I've not long got meself a 110 instead of my old disco and it doesn't have any crunches. I sort of miss em:D

Think I am getting used to that non boy racer style of changeing gear now, been running around in the Disco for the day with out and crunching apart from the one power start i did when pulling onto a main road.

got to say again,,, what fun theses beasts are,, but they take some cleaning, I valet my Scooby weekly and its easy,, this thing is a monster to clean, I could still spend 3days at it to get it how I want it! I am knackered!
