hi

december 2003 freelander sport station wagon TD4

as the title suggests. i have conneceted a synergy 2. it worked great and even better when i connected the maf part. however after one journey with the maf part, i got back in to restart the car and the check engine light is on. i still have the same great power so its abit strange.

i was going to reset it witha code reader but where is the port for it. i have looked everywhere.

i have the synergy 2 on setting 4 which i found to be good since it is an automatic

any help would be great especially any advice from fellow synergy automatic freelander users

thanks:(

Really sorry, but do you mean the glovebox. It is the face lift model just to clarify.
I am normally pretty good with this but I really can't see it. There is something behind the dash that has leads running to it. About the size of the connector but I am reluctant to pull it out.

Look near the heater, centre of car, underneath the dash/glove box, it has a rubber? cover over it

Recheck the synergy connections, particularly the one for the maf, make sure it's the right way around.

Ah. That must be the thing I am scared to pull off. Will have a go when I get home. Hopefully that's it and i don't mess this up. Pretty sure the synergy mad is correct. I was pretty careful although my original maf may be buffered and maybe this is highlighting it. Is replacing it with a pierburg really as good as people say. Only just got the car with 55k on it so I want it to as good as it can be

i'm running an auto wiff a synergy 2 and its on 4 and smooth as floppy,s bald head, as for the Pierburgh i carn't comment but going by what has been written on this forum if the bosch maff is shot then its a very good option with a synergy 2. . . .ive got one going spare [Ming spam ;)]if you decide to go that root brand new just PM me and we could talk dosh :D

Thanks. Pulled the rubber cover off. It reset With a third party £20 reader but came back on after the next second journey. Like I say it goes fantastic with the maf part on. Just the annoying light. Very stange.
Should I be worried. Or only be worried if the mil light with the exclamation mark comes on.

Mpg is fine too. Averaging 30mpg on 2 mile runs usually.
My fiancée does not do that many.

What also annoys me us I have to top up coolant once a month from min to max

is that normal

I was thinking if I disconnect the maf. Reset the code and see if it stays off does that mean a new maf may be in order.

You need to read the code/s that will be stored and proceed from there. Could be nothing to do with the Maf, you could be suffering low fuel pressure for example......

sorry to slightly hijack but ming, hows the synergy on the auto? worth it or not?
The answer to your question Earthling is a definite yes, i say this not as spam as i have absolutely no connection with Rover Ron and his products , but they are wot they say on the tin , fantastic products ,my auto ran like a dream after fitting this product :):):)

Thank you oh great one

Don't get me wrong. It makes one hell of a difference.
Just need to get that mil light off.
Far better to drive and a lot safer pulling out onto busy roads. Even eiththe light on I do not regret it. One thing I will add is that I done an egr bypass

get the kit off eBay but don't get the cheapest one available. Buy the full kit with gasket.

I bought the cheaper one and the measurements were out of spec so it did not fit right.

You are warned

Have you checked that the plug on the synergy 2 to origanal maf conector is the right way round as it will go on either way and if it is on the wrong way round then it normally will give a mil fault. The paint mark may be have been put on the wrong side.
Turn it round and see it will not do any harm and may solve the problem.

just what are we talking about  gasket  out of spec  am i missing summit

Egr bypass kit off eBay. I got one at £30 and the pipe that has the blank cap at the end was too long. I cut it off and just fitted the blank cap straight but it blew a hole in the egr pipe( approx 10cm long. Corrugated metal pipe). This subsequently melted part of the manifold.

I have now discarded the pipe/blank cap part and temporarily done the two pence trick. Going well so far. Though very slight oil residue seeping from egr to manifold conncetion. That's where the gasket is. Original is red in colour.
Tell me if I am talking out if my arse but that's all true.

Just a very bad experience with a out if spec bypass.

If you do buy one an it seems like it is not going to fit. Don't do what I did and butcher it to fit. Send it back and save yourself a lot of heart ache

I've no patience and only got myself to blame.

If anyone knows where I can get that replacement pipe I ruptured it would be a great help.
It's 45 from the stealers which is a bit much for a bit of pipe

I am gonna try the maf connector the other way round but as I say the performance is great and I would have thought if it was wrong then it would have poor performance an only rev to 3000 rpm

If it's not connected correctly there will be no maf signal so the ecu will use default values and with an auto I believe this puts up the warning light (doesn't on manual models).
They still drive fine on the default values so you wouldn't know.

wrong way round! You were right!

I really cant thank you enough. I am so careful and I really thought it was the right way round.
I have travelled for about the last 200 miles with it the wrong way.
Engine management light on after about ten journeys.

Really thought I was f**ked.

Thank you so much.

For everyones info it has done no harm to my td4. It actually went like fook with it the wrong way but mpg was down about 10%

if you happen to have an iPhone I am happy to send you a free cover or charger etc as means of gratitude. Just pm me and I will let you know my site.

Thank again
