Hi everybody, I've recently bought a 2003 V6 freelander sport es, and had it converted to LPG, some may say I'm mad, but I prefer to think of it as a project!:p It's been a godsend in the recent snow as well.

Anyway I've had the cambelt and water pump done, all going fine with the conversion so far, I've had / got a couple of niggles with the windscreen wipers, one stopped working in the cold when I tried to use it when it was stuck to the windscreen. So I've stripped the cover off and the ball joint had come apart and the top piece had gone underneath, so I've placed it back on the ball and tested the wipers for an hour and all seems fine.

2 questions -

1. should the two pieces of the ball joint be permanently attached, as the one wiper that didn't stop working also lifts off the ball, so not sure if this is by design, or wear and tear and I should replace the mechanism?

2. does anybody know what the plastic screw and housing that clamp down the cover / skirt over the wiper mechanism and motor are called or what their part number is? the skirt is not as tight as it could be against the windscreen as these screws got damaged and I would like to replace them

thanks,

Paul :)

Your a brave, brave man!! The KV6 lump is seond only to the K series lump for being very problematic with shifting liners and head gasket failure. I hope you are handy with the tool box and the engine hoist.

You will find plenty of information on here regarding the V6 and Freelander in general so feel free to pitch in.

Watch out for the tractor boys who will take the P1ss by default, hope you've got a thick skin. Ignoring them works best.

The V6 is great, I have done around 16000 miles in mine now, and regularly take it down lanes and so far have been lucky, never had any problems at all with the engine. I have though reconditioned the VCU, replaced 2 speed sensors, drivers window regulator, replaced battery. had it for 14 months, dread to think what its cost me in fuel though, 180 miles on a full tank!!!! I'll not sure in the wiper's I'll go check mine when it's not so fookin cold and dark. Hope you enjoy your V6 Paul_s, just remember to check all levels, every week, and get all the belts changed if it has not already had it done mate..

thanks all, yeah I am a bit mad haha. we'll see how it goes, I've done about 2000 miles so far, and the engine seems ok. coolant level stable, big service done and dusted, so fingers crossed.

180 miles per tank = scary (i do 70 miles round trip a day )

at the moment with the lpg I get 210 miles per 48 litres at around £25

so I'm getting 420 miles per £50 which is about on par with my last car 320 bmw diesel coupe

I knew the 1.8 petrol freelanders had problems, I didn't think the v6 were so bad, but were unpopular due to fuel consumption in the main. I'll post up some pics of the conversion when I get a chance. the tank is under the boot and the exhaust has been replaced with a stainless steel one which now goes straight down the left hand side. anyway I've made my bed now.......

Yep, 180 miles tops per full tank, and at nearly £60 per tank now it's a stinger. but, it pulls, and pulls and is great offroad, no clutch and not having to attack hard inclines, just point and go..

180 miles to a full tank, you got something seriously wrong there mate, we're getting 270 miles to a tank, that's going up and down a 1 in 3 hill on a regular basis and racing up and down country roads - 60 odd down single track roads.

Mmm, interesting, I have done over 15000 miles and fuel consumption has always been the same, Now I am starting to get concerned..

After seeing the figures in this thread......:eek: I've got a major problem.

My 2002 Td4 is only doing about 250miles :(to a tank

I've cleaned the EGR valve and it's gong in for service at the end of the week.

Is my MAF knackerd?

Spose it depends on how heavy yer right foot is. If you keep them pots blazing bright then the tanks gonna empty quickly.

My L series gives me between 400 and 450 miles to the gut full, depends what I'm doing. In the snow I only got 350 miles and I had to block the lower air intake to get the engine temperture up to normal. Its got a Tune-it module on the side of the ECU so that's gonna give a reduction on the MPG, while improving the power / torque.

True, the V6s don't take that much pushing to get up to speed and they don't take much to keep them at speed, if you light em up you can get similar figures to disco V8s.
