corky

Hi there. Bought a Landrover 110 station wagon 2.5 Tdi, M reg, 99,000 on the clock, just before Xmas. Nice truck, in relatively good nick.
Two small problems: The heater doesn't work. I know they don't really heat much anyway, but if you put it on "blow" and "hot" the fuse blows. I've tested the fuse and there's good volts across the spade slot in the fusebox. This implies an earth problem I guess. Are there any common faults I can look for first? I don't want to take the heater out if I can get away with it. In the Haynes manual it's a bonnet-off drilling out rivets job.. :(
Second problem may be more serious. Yesterday a red warning light came on, showing the axles with four wheels. It looks like the diff-lock warning, except it's red and doesn't have the symbol in the middle. The light isn't even in my owner's handbook, but I suspect the handbook is for the more recent models. Is it something to do with the four wheel drive? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can't help with the electric bit ecept that your probably one the right line regarding a live earthing out somewhere.

About the light, have you accidentally engaged difflock.

Check to see if the Fan motor spinns, if it is siezed it will go to earth as if an earth fault. Re the other light take off the Diff lock sensor wires & see if it goes out mabe link the wires together to see if it lights it up or simply select diff lock to see if any thing happends.

Fixed the red warning light by driving backwards and forwards, selecting difflock, then unselecting it again, backwards and forwards again.. well the warning light's gone out, anyway!

Can I get to the blower without taking the heater out of the car? I was checking the electrical connections in that corner of the engine bay. If I feel around amongst the spiders there are three. One is a black 3-pin chunky spade connector, one is a white chunky 3-pin spade connector, one is a two pin round pin connector. None of them look like the heater connection picture in the Haynes manual which seems to be a 3-pin round pin connector.. any clue as to which is which?

Again, help gratefully accepted!
