i shall try again must of got the wrong post before bought a freelander 2.5.v6 on 2001 and it seems to be using a lot of water but cannot find any leaks and it not in the oil do you know what is up thanks mark

Take a look in the middle of the V, I've heard of them leaking water there and it can go un-noticed due to the intake plumbing.

The head gasket can fail without getting oil in the water as well.

Check the cap on the header bottle, if that doesn't seal any more then water can 'escape' that way, if that's the problem it's a simple and cheap fix
