1, soft and hot is ok, = not over pressurized
2, stall test needed, rolled up newspaper, will it stop the fan when up to temp (search)
3, pic of pipe, could be vacuum leak, could be LPG ??

will post a pic of the pipe tomorrow and also try the stall test then. I do believe its part of the original cooling system as there are 2 rubber hoses running into 2 black metal ones, Im concerned I have damaged the water pump though from the cold start when it was frozen and I realised the previous owner neglected to put coolant in. Thanks though, lets see what tomorrow brings lol

You may be able to check operation of the water pump by removing the coolant header tank cap with the engine warm, not hot, and look for movement in the coolant in the tank when the engine is reved up, as has been said already the freeze could have caused the pump impellor may have slipped the bearing cartridge shaft and not be capable of pumping.
A stuck thermostat will also stagnate the coolant flow possibly giving the same sort of result, i.e. no movement in the coolant header tank.

UPDATE..... Water Pump was dead, the impeller was broken as previously suggested. Replaced, proper coolant, no leaks, heater worked.....THEN DISASTER!! Heard a bit of a knock from the bottom end and it was smoking a bit, thought it was where it had been stood, took for a brief test drive, then started missing terribly, almost un drivable. Ive put it back on the drive, but THOUGHTS on what it could be? Has it finally died? Don't know what else to do now apart from torch the piece of ****!! Any help please???? I am at a loss as to what to try next? Could it be a head gasket?

Rocker shaft broken ...

how would a rocker shaft just go like the one I had remidied all the other issues? I have done the following;
Replaced Leads with magnecor and put in correct firing order
Replaced Plugs
Replaced thermostat
Replaced Rad
Replaced water pump
I really don't get it, Im at a loss???

Have you checked it ? ... pop the rocker cover off and have a wiggle ...

I've had one go at 30 MPH on a dual carriageway ... they're not fussy at all ....
