Hi all,
I have a RR Classic with the SRS light on. I do have numerous spares to exchange, if only I knew what the fault was! I'm in the Reading area (RG45) Is there anyone with a Testbook nearby? I'm happy to travel and reimburse your time.....thank you
 
First step is to download RAVE (All Models edition), which has the diagrams, etc.

Then check both the dash bulbs & all the connectors. Any one of them will probably cause the warning.

Before unplugging and re plugging any connectors disconnect the battery and leave it 15 minutes because you could set the bags off

Has this ever actually happened? I'm not having a dig, simply asking as I find that people generally utterly terrified of airbags but I've never heard of anyone experience this and nobody ever mentions the seatbelt pre-tensioners which are surely just as vulnerable aren't they?

I have experience of them df eploying in a friend's BMW when he. went into a huge pothole and it set off the curtain and rear nearside airbag. He said he was glad he didn't have his hearing aids in at the time as it would probably have scared him silly! That wrote off the car but it was old and worthless in the first place. Again, that was impact but I've not heard of one ever deploying by unplugging the connectors and reconnecting them with the ignition off and the battery connected. Please share your experiences if you've been unfortunate enough to have this happen and correct me as I think it is urban myth.

The bags have capacitors so they can still discharge with electrics off / disconnected during impact. In theory touching the wrong wire to ground could set them off. Same reason as disconnecting the battery whenever you have a spanner near the starter motor - in theory OK but touch the wrong bit and you're looking at a new starter solenoid. Safer just to disconnect rather than gamble.

That said, I have unplugged the yellow plug from the instrument cluster with the ignition off but battery connected.
 
I should have pointed it out above. Generally I pull SRS fuses & go have a coffee. Then it’s fairly safe to clean up connectors & check stuff.

Currently trying to sort a Z3 seatbelt pyro connection that keeps bringing up dash light. 2.2ohm resistor hides the fault but would prefer to do it proper. Looking like using a different connector cos I cannot find the correct type.

Just before the dodgy connector, across the two wires. ECU then sees constant resistance, so does not fault when the connector intermittently breaks the connection to the seatbelt pyro. Google "SRS Bypass Plug"
