hey im currently a land rover virgin but looking to buy a defender. spent some time looking on ebay and i'm just a little confused on whats good/bad and what to stay away from. i do work in a bodyshop and am able to spray ect. what i dont want to do is buy a rot box though and spend ridiculous hours on a nail.

so my question is, what should i look out for when buying a defender? i am after something newer than a k reg as i have a private plate. there are some d reg motors on ebay for 7k and some 52 plates for 7k. then some for 18k. i just dont understand what the prices are based on?

ideally i would like to buy a 90 pickup, fit a roll cage to the rear and paint it perhaps black or orkney grey.

what sort of price should i pay for the motor?
any help is greatly appreciated!!

Welcome here, the bushwwacker hit it right on, looking on ebay won't cut it. You need to get around some places and have a look at some and even test drive a few. Then you will know what is right for your needs and your budget! Good luck finding one tho! Given half the chance they are tons of fun and great to work on.
