Hi,

PROUD new owner of a Freelander (TD4, 3 door, 2002, Auto); I have a few questions (having read the handbook cover to cover, I can't see answers to some and some would not be covered in the handbook).

Please be gentle with me :)

1) Sometimes, but not every time, when I open the car, the alarm light flashes and emits a tone - can't find anything in the handbook to explain why. Car unlocks, starts, etc. ok. Anyone any ideas why?

2) My aerial is broken, at the base, I've ordered a new one, Haynes suggests LOTS of work required to swap - does anyone know of an easier way?

3) Car has a lot of wind noise, is this typical of this model and is there anything I can do to lessen the noise (apart from driving slower :))?

4) Floor mats, drivers in particular, appears to have no method to hold it down/stop it moving as I'm driving, am I missing some parts?

5) All mirrors seem 'wobbly' rear view is loose to the touch and side mirrors vibrate a lot - is this normal?

6) How replaceable are parts - the black plastic trim at the top of the bonnet (where the wipers connect) is cracked, big job to replace?

7) On the subject of wipers, when finished they sit 3-5" off the horizontal position, is this normal and, if not, how do I correct?

8) Finally, I've grown used to having one key/fob combined, is there any aftermarket mod to make the FL key and fob one unit?

Sorry for all the questions at once, complete newbie to Land Rover, but already VERY pleased with purchase (24 hours on).

I look forward to being inundated with replies :D

Hi and welcome!!

Good list to start with, can't answer them all but here goes..

1) This is the keyfob flat battery warning, change the battery, CR2032.

2) Is it just the aerial stem or has the base gone? If its the stem, plenty of soaking with wd40 to ease it then just unscrew, if its the base then a bit tricky cos the aerial lead comes from the roof down to the head unit but easy enough.

3. you're driving a 2 ton box, you're gonna get wind noise! Turn the stereo up when you've fixed the aerial!

4) dunno, i've got the rubber ones which just sit there and don't move, no fixings.

5) rear view mirrior will probably just need easing down on it locating peg, grab either side of it and gently ease it down. sides, you'll need to pop the glass out to see whats going on behinf, just push the bottom of the glass in and get your fingers in the top and gently ease it out and investigate.

6) Plenum cover is what its called! take the wipers off, take off the rubber seal then pop out the plastic fixings (order some new ones cos they weill break!)

7) when you've changed the plenum cover, reattach the wipers in the correct position but whilst its off check the wiper motor and linkag for wear/damage, quite a common failure.

8) nope

hope that helps :)

make sure you do a search for bmw crankcase breather mod and spend 30 quid on the intercooler hoses look at an egr blanking kit and you'll be well away :)

Thanks Mark

Ah! Ok, will sort that when in town tomorrow, thanks.

The base has snapped (I have a semi-circle of metal attached to the base ofg the aerial); looks like someone tried to move it and it snapped. Haynes suggests needing to pull down roof lining?! Which I fear I may never get back up!

Ha! Good point.

Ok, will see if I can find rubber set

Great, thanks.

Thanks, will do... Plenun - what a strange name!

Ok, ta

8) nope
Darn!

hope that helps :)
Indeed it does, thanks

One more question

9) What options have I got (so easy options :)) for improving the stereo (as far as I can tell it's got the factory fitted stereo with a cassette (?!?!?) and the 6CD changer under the driver's seat); are there options to swap with minimal aggro? :D

Buy a new head unit from halfrauds and replace head unit. Will probably need a convertor cable on the back of new head unit too as cables may/will be different. Don't know if this will work wiv yer cd changer. I would eggspect not. Not too sure of these things but this is what was done to our FL1: New head unit and the cd changer was missing but I int bothered about one of them.

I don't find the steering heavy but I prefer a more weighted wheel to give me more feel. Others though have also found it to be heavy & compared to a mk1 Rav4 it is very heavy. Depends on what you're used to driving before I guess.

Hope you ordered genuine but pricey landrover mats. They don't slide around but cheapo rubbish will.
