Just signed up to this great Forum !.
I am a bit of a mug! Bought a Defender 90 ( 1997) looked good and drove ok so didnt bother to get it checked over!
Fast forward a week and the starter motor packed in whilst driving through London ( 300miles from home)
AA fitted a new one at a local garage. Started it up a couple of weeks later and notice a whiring sound whilst driving. Stopped at a local garage guy said you are lucky a few more miles and it would have caught fire!
Starter had not disengaged and stripped teeth off flywheel, sure youve heard this one before !!!
Been told that you have to make change to the electrics when fitting a new starter to a1997 model ?
Any comments ( apart from being a fool)
