Hi Guys,

Newbe here and Im looking for some help, I really fancy a landie as a fun 2nd car, for some off roading, and spending days on the beach (im a power kiter).

Anyway Im a geek not a gear head, so dont really know where to start or what to look for, im hoping for a series 3 with an mot and my budget is about £1000, Am I being unreasonable, and if not what do i look for.

at the moment im looking on here, in autotrader, fish4cars etc, but are there better places to look?

all help appreciated

Theres plenty go nice n cheap on ebay, but take an expert with you as most stuff on their is ****e that wont sell to the general public. Dont ever trust what somebody tells you about their car, inspect it properly. £1000 will get you either a half decent series 3, a 90 2.5diesel(non turbo) - your best bet or a 90 2.5turbo diesel - a problematic engine! Look for a sound a bulkhead, stab the chassis all over with a screwdriver for rust, waxoyled can mean its had rust covered up, listen for quiet diffs, gearbox, drive it and make sure it doesnt zigzag and that it pulls ceanly and stops ok, oil leaks are common, but nothin excessive should be overlooked, lots of dents in the wings and bramble scrapes could mean shes had a hard time off roading. Spending a £1000 will probably mean living with much of the afore mentioned!
