Hi, new here and to LandRovers in general.

Been a VW man, had circa 15 Vdubs in the last 10 years, from Concourse Aircooleds to New Beetles to VW Transporters.

Anyway I've always hankered after a Defender so I've just sold my '63 Bug and I'm the hunt for a Defender, the budget isn't massive £3.5k at most. I want to get into Green Laning.

Going to look at two J plate TDI's tomorrow.

Any tips, I know rust is an issue, but engine/gearbox wise what is there to look for, both are genuine Defender 200 TDI's.

3.5k will get you a decent fender. 200tdi engine is such a good.engine simple and strong. Good for 300k+ if well looked after any evidence of Servicing and check for smoke. Make sure difflock and high low works, rest is like normal cars as regard to engine. just check for rust and check again. But honest priced fender for 3.5 should be solid.

rust is by far the most important thing, spend more time underneath with a screwdriver than looking around the rest of the car.

buy wisely and you'll have loads of fun;)

My mate is selling an R reg 300Tdi 90. Its a bit rough but solid and he'll take just over £2k for it as his wife wants it shifted asap. Drop me a PM with your mob number if you're interested and I'll get him to call you. Nearly bought it myself but can't afford it now as my TD5's clutch has just gone :(

Its in Doncaster BTW.
