L Series wins my vote
Semantics. never go for a petrol freelander unless you have deep pockets or an interest in rebuilding motor vehicles .
Wonder if the VCU is still there?

Sequential HGF is not unknown on the K series petrol engines.
The only proper fix (and even that is debatable) is to do the head gasket,(with the correct gasket), the lower engine rail, the remote thermostat and an EWP.
in your opinion ,hgf done properly with no other issues is enough

unfortunately that is not true, apart from the usual get out clause .
I could equally say that No Landrover K series engine would suffer HGF if designed and built properly.
Your statement "hgf done properly with no other issues is enough" is only true in as much as as "Any vehicle which suffers more than one HGF cannot, in your opinion have been carried out correctly, otherwise it wouldnt happen again" A nice "catch all" statement, but not one that helps anyone.
Q "how do you know if HGF repair has been carried out correctly until it fails again? At which point you know it wasnt!"
hopefully you use a mechaniic /engineer who knows what hes looking at and has enough experience to make judgements were necessary
