Hi, I have been thinking of buying a cheap 98 Freelander 1.8 but am scared of the bad news everyone tells me they are?

The one in question has a few issue's I have been searching for an hour trying to find clutchdust's post on fitting new diff mounts without success can anyone help, pls??

Also its it common for the central locking to not work on the offside??

Any other general tips greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. :)

Don't do it mate save yer self the aggravation. You know that it's gonna go pop at some oint and when it does it'll be expensive.

rear diff mounts are fairly easy to do with a bit of patience, but as others have said beware of the impending gloom. How cheap is cheap?

Thanks for some kinda better news, details are
98R 79500miles, 80%Service history, cam belt 2005, few little probs, no water in the oil (yet).
I gave £1500 for it on a PX, but it owes me £700

I thought you were "thinking of buying" it. your last post sounds like you already have brought it.

right sort of price, been looking for a cheap one meself, one at a dealers that I do mot's for am trying to do a deal on it (needs work (accident damage))

I can move it on and make a small profit, but the MRS needs wheels. It looks ok and she likes it and I gotta live with her

ffs fer 700 quid, even if it only lasts 3 months, that's less than the deepreecheeashun on a dearer motor - then jist break if fer spares. if it lasts longer, that's a bonus.
