As Noisy said, I have taken all the lower dash, heater box and air con out of my classic to work on. Don't know how different it is in a disco but was easy in mine. Glad I did as well so much easier to get to the footwells for welding.

Hey mr noises if you have a step by step would be appreciated - my next job though is bleed the brakes and is if that cures the problem of no brakes

Yes mate here goes

• start at the back of the console, lift the rubber mat and undo 4 screws

Lift the handbrake gaiter out and fold back over lever

Slide the electric window panel over to the lever about 5mm, lift out and then tuck back through hole from itself. Undo screw below switch panel hole.

Lift gear gaitors and remove rubber mat, undo 2 screws at the front

Remove radio and unplug

Pull out centre console completely.

Remove heater knobs

Remove 2 screws from under lip at top of heater panel

Remove 2 screws from bottom corners tucked under dash

There might be 2 more screws at bottom of heater fascia but can't remember

Remove heater fascia and unplug clock, cig lighter and heater lights

Remove steering wheel badge and 27mm nut

Remove 4 screws from dash pod bezel, 2 underneath, 2 under gauge bit

Unplug all dash bezel switches

Remove 4 screws from instrument cluster, remove slightly but then kinda reach around to remove speedo cable, not much length on it, kinda squeeze, twist and generally pull

Unplug 2 plugs from gauges and wiggle it out of frame

Remove 4x 8mm nuts from gauge frame and remove it and grey part of guage bezel

Remove rubber mat from dash top

Undo screws/bolts securing grab handle

Remove A pillar trims and door rubbers

There are various screws around the dashboard, 2 near the door switches, 2 near where the radio was, 2 brackets under each corner, need to remove the screw from the pillar then loosen the 2x 7mm bolts and slide the brackets inwards so the dash can sneak past the bodywork

That's pretty much it from memory, but obviously keep pulling gently until it comes and you will find remaining screws!!

Awesome I might give this a go.
Brake issue has been pin pointed to drivers front calliper being stuck on - any ideas on why this might be or how I sort it - there are signs of how hot the brakes have got as I have to leaver off the wheel with a braker bar as was almost welded on.
Here is a pic of hub now

Sticky piston, had the same problem on my Shogun Sport, and a friend on his 90. Very common. One fix is to keep pumping the piston out and hammering it back in a few times but this may cause the seals to go. Get a rebuild kit for it or replace the caliper. Calipers are around £60 a corner naked, going to replace all 4 on my rrc
