I had a new vcu and prop bearings fitted by bell just over a week ago, they also changed the front diff mount for me. I have the same tightness as you describe, but no other noises, except for a single click noise on the offside rear, when the power goes on after changing gear, or if I take my foot off the throttle and then back on. Could the other diff mounts be worn and causing this click noise?

it could also be a broken chassis mount. check it.

ok, so i swapped my tyres over today and put my bamps on and the noise disappeared so it was the tyres after all.

im going to buy a new set, thinking of getting infinitys inf-200s has anuone ever had problems with these before?

thanks everyone for the help, nice and chilled now that i know whats causing the noise

There you go glad to hear it. Are you planning on going off road or staying mainly on road ??? If it's mainly on road I would recommend Pirelli Scorpion STR's as I don't use mine for off road I can't recommend any off road tyres but just remember the more chunky tyres you run on the more road noise you are going to get.

yeah i couldnt believe it mate really didnt think it would cause all that noise just from the prop going back on. witch craft if you ask me haha. i even took it to a relatives garage and he couldnt find it either. ill give him a ring in the morning to let him know what is was.

i do a bit of off roading as i use it for lamping when out with the dogs, nothing too serious was thinking of going greenlaning aswell so wanted something decent, a tidy all terrain would suite me. ive read good things about the infinitys but just wanted to know if anyone has had the issue with the noise, i dont mind road noise but the vibrating thats there now is seriously a pain in the arse haha. thanks for your help any mate i do apprecitate it.

No problem glad to help. To be honest thou I don't think you are going to solve the problem with the Infinity tyres so if you can put up with the vibrating and noise I would leave the tyres on you have on now. at least you know where it's all coming from and it will save you a few quid as well.

Do you think any all terrain would solve the problem or would it have to be a road biased tire to get rid of the noise

I've got no experience of any all terrain tyres so can't really answer that one but what I would do is post the question in another new thread and let all the off road boys come back with an answer. There must be a tyre out there somewhere but at a premium I should imagine.

The tyres I had on were road biased tyres and they gave me the same problem as you so it's not only all terrain tyres that cause the problem. I did a lot of research on the forum and found out that there are only a certain number of "ROAD" tyres that are suitable for the freelander

The more aggressive the tyre, the more road noise. I had GG AT2's on mine and the increase was noticeable. Particularly when over 40K miles, as the started to sawtooth .

Infinity are a good tire in my opinion.

I have had them on for over 2 years.

Great in snow.
Fine on the road(if you don`t off road or tow or live where it snows, why buy a 4x4)
Ok in the wet
MPG 32 mpg TD4
No vibration.

The only problem I have had is leakage around the rim on one tire. This is probably residue from the Scorpions it had on before, which I would not fit again
after trying the Infinitys.
