Just a quick question guys,

I need/want 2 new tyres but want to know if the RR as any specific requirements like the Freelander regarding front or back placement.

With a Freelander if you only replace 2 tyres they should be put on the back because of the VCU and drive ratios etc.

Obviously 4 would be better but the current rear ones all have 4mm+ left and the price of decent AT tyres @ 255 55 18!!

Cheers

As long as there the same size I cant see it being a problem
But if your still concerned why not put the current rear wheels on the front then get the new tires put on the back

Different rolling radiuses will stress the VCU a little more but nothing specific in the handbook I think. Contact Will2813 on here for tyres.

cheers boys;) the rolling radius is essential to be matched on a 4x4 ,also I wouldn't advice using different brands as they too sometimes vary & remoulds/retreads definatly vary in height

Possibly just not in my early one.

The freelander advice came later as I recall.

Thanks for the advice so far chaps :)

Cheaper to just get wheels and tyres off a well known auction site. Thousands out there.

Without knowing the history of them, I personally wouldn't touch them.
Safety first!

+1 I actually buy/sell/supply/fit new & partworn tyres,on average out of say a batch of 50 used wheels & tyres I have delivered (all appear good)only about 6-10 will be fit for resale after examining/testing, it really is shocking what hidden nasties can be wrong with a tyre on close inspection especially after tyre removal  new is best imo;)

Many moons ago I spent some time with a very knowledgeable old tyre fitter who was going through a delivery of second hand tyres that had come from the continent. It was quite an eye opener and I've never bought a second hand tyre since.

Thanks guys, it seems not many options for the 18 inch ATs, I may try and get hold of a set of 16 inch wheels. Need to have a think about this!

Cheers

Plenty of good deals about buying the 16" modular steel wheels and tyres. Recently got some for my brother's series. Come to well under four hundred if I recall.

I've got a set of Toyo Open Country A/T on mine. I found they were reasonably priced (just over £450 for a set of 4 - new) Have used it for some light offroading, and no complaints - seem pretty good in the wet too.

A mate of mine with a D2 has them on his and says they're pretty robust aswell. Another mate has Marix Panthers, which whilst being remoulds apparently they are speed rated. He seems pretty happy with them and told me they were about £85 a tyre I think.

Maybe a couple more options to look at in the A/T category - both of the ones above come in 255/55 R18 fitment
