My local garage has just told me that the bearings have gone on the turbo of my 2009 Puma and that I need a replacement - this is after only 30K. I have not heard of this being a common problem on these engines, has anyone else experienced this? Also, any suggestions on a reasonably priced replacement?

There is a chance that I may be going through the same thing. Mine is a 2010 with 49K, I only bought it last September from a main dealer and it's using Engine oil like it's going out of fashion! Read a couple of articles and it sounds like Turbo Seals/Bearings leaking and burning it off.
The problem I have is that the engine now sounds rougher than ever due to running low on oil.
The dealership are doing a "usage test" at the moment to make sure it is using oil. There are no leaks at all but I've used 6L in 4000 miles! Are your symptoms anything like this?

Just had my turbo replaced with an uprated job by from Alive Tuning. The original one had about 1 or 2mm of play along the direction of the centre spindle, and it's only done 16,500 miles.

Pete.
