Following the death of one of our vans we are replacing it with a van bodied series 3 109 in fabulous honest condition, just had a reconned b series petrol fitted and extensive sympathetic restoration work. Even has a recent electric winch fitted to front, work lamps at back, the fairey overdrive and a nice bit of axeminster carpet in the boot... Pics to follow

righty dokey,
collected it on Sunday and have been using as a daily since. Initial thoughts - considerably more civilised than the 88 diesel, not sure why vendor though it was a B series, it's the standard petrol lamp for this vehicle although Mark at Mark's Garage in East Lothian pointed out the old diesel return pipe so it was once a diesel. The carb is a brand new weber, I know power is meant to be better but I might refit a zenith. Gawd knows what the exhaust is from - looks like its been nabbed from an austin princess, will need a new one as it runs a good 2 inches under the chassis which means the first time this beast heads off road, bye bye...

on that matter - do people recommend stainless steel exhausts or should we stick with mild?

Electrics are a bit byzantine and the vehicle does have a tendency to lose lights, indicators, fuel gauge and the charge light to come on. I've tightened the alternator belt but will go through the system with the multimeter and source the issue - I suspect it is earth related (as usual!)

I will get some pics up tomorrow, promise.

tyres - it's on skinnys and I'd like to keep it that way if possible

Go stainless, you never have to replace it then (in theory). I plan on fitting one to my 88 in a year or 2

yeah, price wise they seem quite reasonable, is there a make to avoid. Stainless exhausts are a pain if they don;t fit properly. I really struggled with one for my Triumph 2000 from a well known seller of parts who's name may or may not suggest unhygienic practices with the tounge

I found putting a stainless exhaust on my 88" changed the exhaust note quite a bit - it actually sounded slightly sporty! Worth doing if you plan to keep her for a while.
Of course, it also makes them much faster!
