Right, thought it time to 'Introduce myself'...

Bought my fist LR almost 2 weeks ago, 2004 Disco. Have been after one for years and thought I would treat myself this year for my significant birthday.

Have already found this site to be really useful having given me chance to 'fix' some minor issues and guidance on other little niggles that come with a 13yr old vehicle. It's a great site and hopefully I will gain more knowledge and experience from you all!

I'm not one of these 'buy a car and lock it away' kind of owners. I bought this machine to enjoy, get muddy and go off the beaten track. I'm not looking (yet!) to do some insane things I've seen on line but if I don't get dirty then I'll be disappointed. It will have its practical uses for camping, going walking and lugging weights about too! Living in Liverpool I may have to travel a bit but hey, more time in the Disco to enjoy it!

Any advice on things to look out for, places to go etc. warmly welcomed. Like I say, I'm new to the LR party, and indeed forum websites, so please be kind!...

Welcome to the Loonyzone.
There is always LZ13 , you can come and go greenlaning.

Plus, just because I cannot resist.... Have you got your EKA code for the Disco?
I take it you gave the car a good check over , as they tend to rust on the rear third chassis.

I'm away for LZ13 unfortunately, but will be looking in the near future for greenlaning clubs to join/tag along with. Also looking at going direct to LR and having one of their instructors sit in and teach the ropes etc. - not sure if this is worthwhile but any tuition has to be better than non right?

EKA code..what's that!? Had a mechanic look over before I bought and he only found some minor issues. Undercarriage has been sealed and looks clean, to be fair the whole car/engine looks well looked after. But I'm not a mechanic, I only follow instructions when using the spanners. I did ask him if it was his money would be paret with it to which he said yes which was a good enough checkbox for me to part with mine. Just hope I don't regret it now...

Sounds good, Ref the EKA code, if you have a read of the owners manual what it is is in there, basically a 4 number code to use in the car door lock if your fob / rf receiver fails. Hopefully you have it written down somewhere. in the paperwork.

thanks, just had a read through the pre-purchase checks too. Looks like I've got a good'un!
 
Oh, by the way. New too. 2004 LR Discovery 2 Pursuit (no sunroofs) ;). Already replaced bias plate, nsf hub and sensor and two dash cluster bulbs otherwise all good so far. Although about to tackle the shuttle valve actuator to try and get rid of those 3 annoying lights!

Welcome to the loonyzone, most people post in their own intro page....LOL

Have you put it on diagnostics to check if it is the shuttle valve? I would imagine there are ont many LR dealers near you.;)

Hahahaha

Not actually there now but you'd be surprised what you can do in the field with a Tonka toy tool kit :).

When I changed the NSF hub the lights went away but came back about two weeks later so I had a guy put it on his diagnostic gadget thingy which said "Terminal Failure of Shuttle Valve Switch" so I bought one and will be changing it next week.

It's fun this LR owner thing. So many surprises :rolleyes:
 
The D2 TD5 is not fully OBDII comliant , be wary of using a std diagnostic unit, as a lot of them can throw up dubious info.

Ref the SVS.
Have you read up on the modification that can be done?

Yeah, looked at the wiring mod and then looked at mine to find someone has already had a go at that :rolleyes:. So I took the car to a 'specialist' who had some device which apparently cost 20K and immediately diagnosed the SVS as at fault. So for £45 I bought a new one and will see what happens when I do the straight swap. I'll post up once done.
 
I'm in Leigh nr Manchester,not bothered about scratches or the of dints,never had a landy,so it's the first time,want it for me and my 3dogs thanks geeza
