Hi my new midlife crisis purchase has let me down! I have bought a 51 plate 4.6 having many years with a disco td5, after a few teathing problems ( new centre box on exhaust, front ball joints) we have settled down to some expensive motoring.
However yesterday having driven around a bit parked up, then after an hour or so went back out to find it would not start, unlocks fine, engine spins but will not fire up
What I have done
Disconnected and reconnected the battery
Eka code twice checked good connections on all relays and fuses

Any ideas before getting dragged in to main dealers

Early type RF receiver being swamped by RF and/or loss of sync, both common problems. you could try disconnecting the blue aerial wire from the RF receiver located under the trim drivers side in the boot.

Hi... welcome to your new hobby...

To start helping you diagnose...

Strong battery? 12.5v or better? No other warning messages?
Well serviced? (fuel filters)
Fuel to injectors?
Sparking?

Yep good battery, no warnings, main dealer serviced from new, just checked by putting a nail into sparkcap and holding against block and spinning it over no spark.

Dealer or independent easiest and cheapest for now

Long term and if you intend to keep the vehicle invest in syncmate or something similar

hi if its lost the sync then ring me and will talk you thru it over the phone ,,to get my no just P.M. me and il'l give it to you ,dont waste time and expensive money on main dealers and costly bits of kit ,!!!!!!! if its straightforward loss of sync then i will be able to do it ..cheers for now mozz:):)

Have spoken to moz today who was very helpful have eliminated sync as a fault It is now looking like an electrical fault as there is no spark at spark plugs, also swapped my new td5 discovery battery into it just to rule out a dead cell.
Will update when cause is established (so glad I kept the disco)

I think you are mixing up the different types of sync. First type is sync'ing key fob to BeCM. Mozz is your man for this.
Second type of sync is between BeCM and ECU . No amount of EAK codes will fix this. You need a SyncMate from BBS or a Nano, Faultmate etc.
Save yourself the hassle and just buy a SyncMate. You will be up and running in 5mins and you can keep it in the give box for the next time it happens.

At last it fires up and runs, update on the saga of not starting, took advise and ordered a sync mate direct from blackbox solutions, however by the time it arrived i was happily floating around the med for a week, on my return i eagerly took said syncmate out to my pride and joy (or worthless piece of scrap as the wife was calling it) only to find my time away had completly killed the battery, no central locking, when opened with the key no alarm, nothing. jump leads from trusty disco td5 and ignition light etc came on but no alarm or locks swapped batteries and still no locks tried EKA a few more hundred times checked my code with main dealer and all was correct so finally admitted defeat and towed it to Maddison 4x4, Patrick at maddisons finally took a look at it and overrode the door lock by attaching two wires and shorting and un shorting when entering the EKA sync the keys a plug into his diagnostic software ( sorry dont know what system he uses) resynced everything after diagnosing a blown fuse 32, so i opted for a new door lock so that the EKA should work properly next time i have a sync issue and a few hours labour has sorted the problem for now, thanks for all advise and tips on how to sync

Update, I have been running without the blue rf wire attached fine just have to hold key fob to rear window to lock or unlock BUT for what ever reason when I go to my local Tesco filling station it kills the immobiliser then frantic lock unlocks plus eka to get it fired back up. tonight was the final straw so have ordered the undated rf box from island 4x4 as recommended ( I did see someone selling 6 on eBay at £75 each)
On a better note she has been for her first MOT under new ownership and only needed number plate light wiring replaced and a clean up of the brake pipes for a pass. Total cost £100 including the test

did you make sure it was the latest version with the correct dot? and not an early version with a new sticker?

you'll find a lot of fuel stations have antennas with high RF signals hidden in sign post and things. find them and stay away from them.

There was a thread somewhere on here about petrol stations causing problems, something to do with some radio waves or summat...

Ha Ha im not cheesed off anymore though

i am quite worried about being stranded mind somewhere reading all these posts about non starting...

so whats the fix or best wa not to be stranded

Replace the RF box from island 4x4 and carry a sync mate in the glove box ?? and a jump pack in the back lol....

join the AA/RAC and get them to tow you 200m away from the pumps and then start as normal :D:D:D

but getting the latest RF unit is a very good idea!
