After over 6 years of running a Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) 2.7 CRD we reluctantly decided we needed to change for something newer. We are not off roaders - got into 4x4 ownership after getting stuck on a fishing lake after a very light snow fall in our old RWD estate car. First ever 4WD was a Merc 300TE 4-matic, followed by a Nissan r3mR, an awful Hyundai Santa Fe then Jeeps. We still have a WK 3.0CRD Mk1. We like the high driving position, easy to get in & out of plus a great load carrier for fishing, holidays etc. I have never considered the Range Rover vaiants as many seem to be money pits especially when buying older used.
Our Freelander has service history with 54k on the clock - my first observation when driving is there seems a lot of general road noise and drive train sounds when the radio is off. No whines or anything just noisier than I expected on different road surfaces. That said our old WJ engine noise was such that you coud only hear the diff whine when decelarating!
