Hi All,
I have just bought a Freelander 1 1.8 k series 50th anniversary 3 door as a project. This is my first landrover and I have read lots on the forum already. I have done a compression test and found 230, 220, 230 and 230 which I am happy with although seems a bit high. Will be doing the One wheel up test as soon as the lock nut cover removal tool comes. Brakes are binding as it’s been sat for a while. So will remove the brake drum to do the test if possible. I have started stripping the interior and found a small swimming pool. Back carpet came out easy.
What is the best way to remove the front carpet.?
Any tips on leaks . Back door , roof seals , ac overflow etc.
Everything needs a good clean (mould)
Bought the satellite thermostat mod .
Any ideas / remarks welcome.
I’m sure I’ll be a regular on here now.

Welcome. I had a 1.8K 50th myself, lovely vehicle it was too, until the wife crashed it.:eek:

I would question the accuracy of the compression tester, as a good K1.8 will give about 175 PSI of cylinder compression.
However it's more important that the compression on all cylinders is within 10%, which it is.

It's an assembly of new coolant pipes with a new thermostat , which moves the position of the stat to front of engine and gives a more stable temperature. Also seen a vid of a different way to plumb it in to avoid any overheating on a 10 minute idle.
Hopefully stop any hgf problems in the future.
 
Found the top rad hose chafed against the fan shroud today. So thin it's ready to pop. Good job I've got the new hoses

I'd plumb the remote thermostat as per the LR documentation.
There's no way a 1.8 will overheat at idle if the coolant is flowing through the radiator. The same size radiator is used for the KV6, which dumps twice as much heat into the rad.
As long as the cooling fan is running, a 1.8 should remain well under an overheat condition.

Hi, welcome to the forum and good luck with your K series, I loved the one I had a few years ago.
As for the OWUT I have used a standard ratchet on one of the wheel nuts extended out to 1.2m from the hub centre. So long as the bar, nut and centre are in line it will work fine ;).
