I have just bought an 2005 td4 Freelancer Sport,on the test drive I found no wind up when turning in a circle ,however today whilst going forwards doing a three point turn I had the sensation of the car becoming tight.I have tried it again both while reversing and going forwards and it doesnt happen all the time. The four tyres are the same is this normal to have some wind up or should it be completely loose.
thanks for any help

I have went through the other posts re vcu but nobody's seems to say that Freelancer has an inbuilt resistance in its running gear the car has 81000 miles its a 2005 model

The FREELANDER!! does have a tiny amount of VCU drag in all running conditions. However in a straight line there's so little VCU drag that it's undetectable over the drag imposed by the tyres, diff, ird, wheel bearings and brakes. The VCU drag increases as the front and rear wheels rotate at different speeds, as happens at full lock.
The VCU generally has a life of around 70,000 miles so at 80,000+ it's putting extra load on the drive train.
There's loads of great information on here if you look hard enough.
