Looking into buying my first defender 90 after wanting one since i was a kid to do a bit off roading and green laning. Just looking for a bit of advice really as to what the best engine is and what I need to look out for when buying one?
Also if and where the best places in the north of England are?

Cheers

Welcome and you have come to the right place.

If you spend about 20 min looking around the forum and use the search function you will find all you need.

There a section dedicated to defenders.

Thanks, ill,do that.

I'm guessing you mean most defenders are rotten by saying I will need a welder? Or am I wrong?

It helps to have one.
its the rear cross member, front bulkhead are the main rot areas on them, if you get one that is well serviced and regularly wax coated it should be ok.

Defenders arent known to rot but if your greenlaning and off roading you may need to weld some bits. Also if your buying an old one it might have bits of rot, depends how well its been looked after

Worth getting someone to look with you off forum. If you post a rough locale when the time comes you might get help or a point in the direction of a good one for your budget.

I should go in your tapatalk settings and click signature box. People get irritated by the posted by thing ;)

Cheers for the help.

I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne but I suspect it will be a month or so until I start looking to buy once I've sold my current car, just starting my research early.
