Hello,

I've not got one yet, but I'm looking to buy a cheap Freelander to get me to work and as a work-horse.

Never owned a 4x4 before. My only experience of driving a Land Rover was my dad's £700 Series II/III which TBH scared the crap out of me on the road at anything over 30mph, but was amazing in the snow this year. It was dying so he scrap-aged (spell?) it for a brand new Jeep Patriot. Sorry, I did try to get him to buy a Freelander 2, but the Jeep has turned out to be much better than expected.

Oh and I borrowed a company Freelander 1 TD4 a couple of times a few years ago.

Anyway - I have a 4x4 itch to scratch, hope you don't mind the questions I'll be asking! :)

Can I get a usable Disco for £1500?!

TBH, I won't be going off road that often, mainly it'll be on the road.

Welcome. Yep, you can get a fair bit of Disco for 1500 knicker, but you do need to know what you're looking at and for. ;).

you can definitely get a pile o rust that still is kinda a disco for 1500 of yer hard earned pounds...

No, you can easily get a rust-free Disco for that money, no problems. At least, I know I could.

Bollocks. 12 year old V8 ES with lpg, **** all rust, all electrics work, sunroofs don't leak, on a new ticket, £1650. I know, cuz I bought it a couple of months ago.

Saw plenty of oil burners around the same price, but I wanted a V8. Plenty around if you look. ;)

Actually looked at one! If you trust your gut feeling you can sort the wheat from the chaff in ad's. Speaking to the seller is always a good bet to see if they're just scheisters.

If the one I went to see wasn't any good I would've headed up to the Midlands to see another. As it turned out this one was exactly what I wanted & saved me a trip to Yam-yam land.

So long as you take your time, give them a good long look over (including pulling up the carpets) and you're prepared to walk away if you have any doubt you shouldn't go far wrong. ;)

Oh, & steer clear of anything that says 'off road ready'. It means that some ****er's already done the damage that you want to do!

I,ve got a K plate 200 for play days, rusted as Weetabix !

I,ve got the chance of a 300 that the chap says has no rust but failed mot on ball joints/tyres and a couple of other " boltable on " bits.
With all the reading I,ve done about the D1, and the state on my 200, I was under the impression that there was no such thing as a " rust free-ish " D1.

The fella was only talkin about £ 500 for it.

I might have a look knowing that it " could " be sound.

Cheers.

Del.
