Hi All

My Discovery 2 started making a new strange noise yesterday.

I first noticed it when I was driving. It is coming from near the ignition. At first I thought there might have been a leaf or something in the air system but this was switched off anyway.

This morning I came to start the engine, put the key in the ignition, turned it to aux to wait for the dash lights to go out and the noise started before I had started the engine.

It sounds like it is actually coming from the ignition not the air blower and is like a little wiring motor noise. It builds up over the first few seconds and then maintains a constant wirring noise.

Has anyone come across this before? What could it be?

Thanks

Katharine

The air con wasn't switched on when the noise started. The noise definitely sounds like it's coming from near the key rather than the air system

The aircon doesn't have to be switched on - the fan comes on with the ignition. Look at the dash behind the key (to the left of the headlight adjust) there's a little grille. The fan's somewhere behind that.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies

I think it is coming from there. I hadn't even noticed that grill  It has been added to the list of things for sorting.

Thanks
