Hi guys

Have been looking at all the threads regarding aftermarket stereos and cant find what im looking for

Thinking of installing this in RR X reg 4.6.

Alpine - Digital Media Receiver - iDA-X305S

RR already has alpine stereo but no ipod connection, USB, aux socket etc, plus the cd autochanger keeps dying and refuses to work on any day with a y in it.

Was quoted mega bucks to install and retro fit a new head unit from a car audio place.

What are the main problems in fitting new stereo and are they easily worked round?

looks nice

i had an ok kenwood in mine when i bought it and some cheap ripspeed 6x9 with a good amp, but had one of these sat around, pioneer bluetooth hands free with mic and remote control, rear ipod connection/usb , cd mp3 etc with ful ipod charging and control

so took the kenwood out to have a look, and the conector clocks are exact same , it was unplug the kenwood and plug the pioneer straight in with no messing about, put the mic and ipod lead going behind the dash in to the rear of the glove box and took 10 mins and all worked perfect, put in some nice 525w vibe black air 6x9 a straight swap for the ripspeeds, and now its all sounding super and 60gb of music at the touch of the remote control !!

so 1st port of call pull your stereo out and just have a look at the connector blocks and see if it has iso connectors from the car wiring like this, to unplug your one and plug in to the new one, if so its easy take you 5 mins

May be different on later ones but mine was a straight swap , mines a 98 reg , polsta, where did you mount the 6x9s ? Was thinking of upgrading my stereo system

Do a search for Harman Kardon P38 here?

You 4.6 has that system and it's not plug and play job.

You need an amp box to transform sound system in a universal thing.

I did it. Doesn't cost a lot but mandatory or you'll get big whines and buzzes

So if you get new amp then everything should work ok?? Car audio place were saying about rewiring or replacing speakers??

Also on ranger rover net it said about fitting some kind of circuit to speaker wires from new stereo to old speakers? would that work too and bypass the need for new amp?

Not being technically minded, I'm afraid i need it as simple as simple can be

Car audio place are saying that because right now there's nothing on the market to avoid rewiring an replacing speakers...

And rewiring and replacing speakers...isn't that their job after all? Those guys prefers rewire everything and ask you big money instead of simply plug a box that solves the whole problem.
Rewiring costs a lot (time or money) and you'll loose all the power of an amplified system

The circuit rangerovers.net is talking about (Ray Ambler's attenuator) is the way to go...

I did it (like many on rangerovers.net board) and it simply works perfectly. No buzz, plenty of power. Not like the Nexxia piece of junk.

Lol i did look at the Nexxia thing too.

So basically, buy new head unit, buy bits for circuit, make ciricuits, attach to speakers, plug in power and other bits and hey presto new stereo works for for my beloved ipod

or usb stick???

I say Nexxia is junk because i tried it and all i got was a big buzz. They advised rca filters, grounding each door amp... I wanted to save time with their kit and i've lost a lot to find a home made circuit was the solution. Their adapter is badly designed and i'm not the only one that had problems. At least i got full refund of them.

Thank you for all the info. Looks like i will be googling for places to buy circuit bits. Whatever did we do before Google?
