To start with i have a 3.5 v8, starter motor burnt out the other day so have put a new one on and all it is doing is clicking, very confused took it off the engine and it pushes in and spins but when in the engine it doesnt, faulty starter or something more serious?
Cheers steve

Have you forgotten to connect the earth strap to the engine? not 100% on a 90 but on my disco the earth strap to the engine bolts on the top starter motor bolt, direct from the battery.

could be the easy option, i have forgotten this in past!

Ah well you see there isnt an earth strap on there (is a discovery engine), i have made a temporary earth but i dont know where i can get a strap from

starter should earth via casing then strap iirc. go get a jump lead and stick one end to the engine and the other to your battery. see if it works.

Well there you go then, get some 400amp welding cable from your local welding shop and sort the job out.

Not sure why you needed to ask?!

Yeah my mate came and figured it out after i put this post on thats why i had eneded up trying the jump lead earth
