Said I would have hundred questions.....

Only had it a week, now horn and heater seemed to have packed up! Found fuse box under steering wheel, but no idea what is what. They all seem ok, but still need to make sure before I look further. The fuse clamps seem very loose as well, but no idea if thats the problem?

Have ordered books sugested, but can any one help untill they arrive, please?

Its a petrol 1977 88" swb .

The fuse boxs failing is quite common they seem to get loose connections over time. Check the connections to your horn and heater under the bonnet.
Pics would be nice :D

The scouring sponges that are under your kitchen sink are ideal for cleaning electrical connectors, just the rough bit of the sponge polish the connectors until they are shiny, bend the tags in a tadge and refit the cleaned fuse and hopefully all will be well.

Thanks folks. Got under bonnet this morning. Horn had both connections loose.sorted. The heater power connection appeared loose as well. I tightened the connector, but only worked if i pulled to one side. Sorted with a cable tie for now. I guess the whole heater unit will have to come off at some stage to get at the inside connector. Hardf to see from outside. Guess this the way forward now the proud owner of this 34 year old Land Rover......

The wires that go into the heater are actually connecters as well. They are plugs that plug into the heater body and if you run you finger underneath it may be loose

It was just like that. Would only work with pressure from below. Took conecter out, but could not get too see what problem was so cable tie only solutuion till I take heater apart.

Just sorting out my own Series 3 1977 (petrol) electrics. Just a silly question - according to the wiring diagrams there aren't any connections to fuse points 2 and 4. Any idea why there is a fuse in this at all, or am I missing something?

you are a step ahead of me with my "new" 109. Good info on the fuses. I have to track down why the rear wiper isn't working. I also still have a mystery switch I need to figure out lol the left top switch doesn't seem to do anything. . .gotta love it.

That's just meant as a spare I think. Remember your fuse numbers might not match up to the ones in the book if it's had people fiddling with it before, I know mine didn't anyway!

I think that's for a spare!

There's a good number of wires in a landrover that aren't fused at all such as horn and inspection sockets on dash

Thanks ( I meant 3 and 4 by the way!). In fact my empty fuse station is between 5 and 6 but otherwise the connections look right.

Yes I agree about the fiddling - I've taken out no end of wires simply twisted together and replaced them with proper connections!
