I've recently fitted the updated RF receiver to my RR in an attempt to halt the dreaded battery drain. This seems to have improved matters when I'm parked up at home but, having driven home to visit my parents for Christmas, the battery lost enough charge overnight such that I couldn't start the engine the next morning.

Ideas please, guys! Battery is in perfect condition, alternator is working 100% - what else could it be?

Where did you get the new RF receiver?
How do you know the alternator and battery are perfect? Cold weather will always show up a weak battery and an alternator that charges well can still drain a battery if there is a faulty diode in the diode pack.

You may have another drain on the battery from something else only testing for a drain with a multimeter will confirm

If yours is an auto, check the red led on the P position on the parking selector when you've turned the ignition off.

Mine still glows slightly even after a few minutes, unless I press the mode switch after turning the ignition off.

I've checked this: the red light goes out 2-3 minutes after the ignition is turned off.

I purchased the RF receiver from Island 4x4.

Who checked the battery and alternator?
You can eliminate the alternator as the cause by disconnecting when parked overnight.
If the problem depends on where it's parked, maybe you should check the RF receiver inside the box is the latest version.

Checking for a drain on a multimeter and not doing it correctly can blown the multimeter. I use a clarke cdm 45 meter and set the red probe to the 10amp socket unused and the black lead in the black port set the meter to do amps dc 200m settings you need the vehicle locked but bonnet open leave it to sit for a minimum 30 minutes then put one probe on battery post and lift the terminal off the post with the other lead attached you need to have another pair of hands to make it easier, now when it is disconnected don't loose contact from multimeter as you will blow it otherwise.

Reading should be 0.030ma or lower

Has it got an aftermarket stereo? They're often a source of battery drain. Guess you could always see if the battery holds charge with the leads off (ie. disconnected.) Not sure why location would affect it though.

Island 4x4 normally pretty reliable.

Certain locations have spurious signal problems which are picked up by the r/f receiver which will relock the doors and reset the alarm. Eventually this will flatten the battery and eventually burn out the front door lock motors. The new r/f receiver should have eliminated this problem though.:)

I'm kind of hoping the receiver from Island is OK or we're all in trouble again!

How about a sticky ignition barrel? Would that stop it sleeping if it didn't pop out all the way when you removed the key? Admittedly it should beep and flash up "Key in ignition" but you never know!

yes but you would have a warning message on dash.just dust some graphite on the key & inside barrel to eliminate NOT wd40
