Hi guys, my wife has decided that she has had enough of her Disco TDi 300 and wants a series or LR/Defender 90.

I've done a fair bit of work on Discos of different years - new boot floor in a TDi 200, new sills on a TDi 300, clutches, cambelts and general servicing etc.

I understand a bit least about the weak points in terms of rusty chassis, crossmember and front bulkhead and she will do only about 5000mls tops per annum.

So my question is, what am I likely to be able to buy with a budget of about £2200?

What else should I be aware of?

For 2.2 you should be able to get a series in good condition, with relative ease, but what are you/is she looking for ?

Series landies are a lot of work to keep going generally, and need lots of love, time, and money to keep in tip-top shape and running nicely...... a good idea is to read some of the numerous rebuild threads ....:pop2:

She hasn't really answered this question, to my satisfaction anyway, other than to say that she wants a simpler vehicle??? Than a TDi 300 Disco??

Ah well.

It'll be me that spends the time looking after it so if she goes down this route I want to find something halfway decent that I can renovate to a good reliable working std.

Ah, the female condition :D

I'd probs point her in the direction of a Defender TBH - on account as the series are, well...very basic.

But that's what she says she wants - I have this really strong feeling that she doesn't really know what basic is.
