second roof tent now on (loosely as i couldnt be bothered to get the welder out last night) I have decided to have it folding out to the rear of the vehicle so that it offers a semblance of cover to the rear door, then when cooking it offers a bit of protection at least.

Centre of gravity now raised quite a bit!

they have had a steel frame welded to the bottom of them which i have cut to fit the defender roof rack. Its been done in such a way that you cant get any retaining clamps around them.

So rather than cut off all the fillet welds, I am just welding the secondary frame direct to the roof rack. As they are so frickin heavy its not like I am going to be bothering to remove them etc.

If they ever have to come off I can just chop off the 8 welds holding the secondary frame to the rack.

get some pics at the weekend. its dark by the time I get home from the office

i thought home was your tent! :D

not yet :p and that will only be 1 night per week :)

staying in it 1 night a week will save me £2000 a year in fuel. (or stay 2 nights a week during the summer and sod the winter!)

not to mention 200 hours of driving!

So I can put longer hours in at my office and have more days off at home with the wife and kids. Its a win win :)

tis ok, ive a paraffin heater that im sure will be perfectly safe to use in a tent, it says so on the.. AAARRRGGGHHHHH :flame:

you camping outside of work then? do they not think you a bit wierd... also how the feck can you be bothered doing all the security checks they require.

lol no! I need to find a little place out on the hills in the middle of no where.

Security checks were originally a ballache, but I did it 3 years ago and since then just transferred my credentials around the place. Once you have it sorted its pretty easy but its that first SC check, urrrgghhh what a ball ache.

I fancy getting my DV clearance which is higher but they have to come and inspect your home, interviews, go through your finances etc etc with a tooth comb to ensure you cannot be blackmailed. Once you have it though it opens up more job opportunities and the renumeration is higher.

Sorry for it being sideways :)

Oh over the weekend I also removed the comeup (always a dodgy name) winch and fitted my winchmax 13000 with synthetic rope etc. Wired it all up and working a treat. Finally!

My young boy had immense fun trying to hold the winch and having it drag him across the floor. The simplest things eh!

This weekends plan for the 110 :-

a)fix the exhaust properly where the previous owner has bodged it - found it rubbing on the chassis and causing an immense amount of noise
b)remove the side steps that are on it
c)fit the dog guard in the back
d)adjust all 4 wheels bearings - found them to ALL be loose after fitting wheel spacers and alloys
e)replace the home made rear door card with an OEM one and scrap off the paint from the back window the previous owner had put on because "he thought it looked good" - it doesnt

if i get time i also need to replace the handbrake shoes as the handbrake doesnt work at all.

i installed an 88 degree thermostat in it yesterday (when it wasnt blowing snow in my face!)

made quite a difference, it now blows mildly warm air out of the vents... amazing!

also went round the roof rack removing any excess bracketry that isnt serving any purpose. Managed to remove about 8kg of material from it.

Used me plasma cutter to do it :) much better than the angle grinder! Mind it didnt half chuck molten metal everywhere (got a bit of spatter down my shirt and ARGH it hurt haha)

oh just won a spare wheel carrier on the ebay so i can support the ... spare... without it feeling like its going to bend the rear door in half.

Ill be removing the rear view mirror later (is that required for MOT?) and I am installing a rear facing camera just above the back door. I cant see anything out of the mirror!

Ive got a dvd head unit thing that I have mounted in the dash so the camera is going to the spare av port on that. Should come in handy when hooking up trailers etc.
