Hi all, got a new problem with my 2001 manuel td5 disco. From cold when you change gear the engine revs don't drop off when you lift off the accelarater. It is only a slight increase in revs and it clears when the truck is up to full temp 10miles plus. I have run Nanocom and have no faults. The truck has no lack of power or fuel consumption problems.
Any pearls of wisdom from the wealth of knowledge out there?????????

have you checked the values of the throttle potentiometer when you are driving?
 
I have checked values when hot but not sure what values should be. I guess o to 5volts but not dose anyone know ?????

You have 3 readings. The starting value is 5.00. As you press the pedal the value of the first will be deducted from the second. If you add the 2 figures together it should make 5 again. The same happens with the third reading. If you watch the reading as you accelerate you will see what I mean. It's possible that the potentiometer is sticking.

Depending on how high the revs remain, when you take your foot off, it might be the ecu telling the motor to run a bit higher to aid warm-up.

There are several electronic links between engine temperature and fuelling to ensure (???) smooth running whilst cold.

For example, on a cold engine the engine ECU talks to the auto gearbox ECU to instruct it to hold onto gears for an extended period until the temps reach normal.
 
if it was doing this all the time then i would suspect the clutch switch as this can give the same problems when warm try disconecting it and going for a drive (its in the engine compartment just to the left of the brake master cylinder and above the fuse box)
 
BRILLIANT!!!!! Just tryed your suggestion , Disconected clutch switch and went for a drive. Problem much more pronounced . It hangs on to the revs very badly showing up as the exaggerated simyptom. I guess that the switch is failing and when the oil warms a bit it works as it should.

Time to change the switch and bleed the clutch and change the clutch fluid. Thanks for all the held. Dunk

Would you mind posting back if this fixes it mate? My 2000 TD5 has started doing this as well. I was thinking of just lubing the throttle pedal somewhere, but maybe there is more to it as suggested.

Mine only does it from 1st to 2nd gear!

Yes no problem . I'm not going to be able to get to the dealer till tue/wed next week but will keep you informed with results
 
LATEST UPDATE....

Changed the cluch pressure switch and BINGO !!! fault gone.
The clutch fluid isn't changed or bled even at service and when I changed the switch It was thick and black. This may also of affected the swiches proformance.
No more rev,s running on when I change gear.... Oh and yes it is a pig to bleed up , Easy bleed made it much easyer.

My TD5 has just started doing this too. Recently had the master cylinder off for a clean out and a full fluid change to the brakes, power bled using Nanocom. Day after I bled the clutch (not a huge amount as the fluid looked OK) and the over revving has started. Someone suggested the clutch pressure switch but I had no idea where it was.....until reading this. Going to have a look tomorrow.
