Hi everyone, I live in a hugely rural part of France and I have just excitedly acquired what I hope is a very cool project for potential off road joy- always fancied a LR

and this was what I ended up with although confusing provenance and (despite a stack of history) unknown model/models! I think I need some advice or berating, time will tell. I’m very practical, mechanically skilled and intrigued! Bitsa methinks!?

So I gather, V5 shows first reg 83 but many things make no sense. The Vin and engine numbers logged make little sense either, I would like to determine what bits are what and what do I even call it? It’s in nice condition and I’m quite pleased with it but it’s my first foray into the complex world of LR. Fascinating stuff.

I'm no defender expert so all I can tell you is that it has the wrong doors and the wrong badge on the front for 83. What engine does it have?

I’m unsure, only set eyes on it today for the first time (been stored at a friends house for the last two years)- it’s a 2286cc according to V5, prop to fit then I shall retrieve it..

thats a 300tdi engine so from 94-98 approx. 2286cc is a series engine.
Gonna guess it has coil springs too? In which case I very much doubt that any of it is from 83.
Either way, looks very nice someone has loved it

Has 300tdi wings. Tdi windscreen brackets.

Look on the drivers side by the bumper.(jacking bracket)That’s where the chassis number should be.
Bet the back axle is disk?
It’s a Q bitsa
But a nice 1.

Hi and welcome!

Nice looking project. The Q-plate suggests an interesting past. Lots of lights on the roof too!

I shall! I struggled to find any numbers on my quick and uneducated search earlier- I’m just glad to learn a little more about it, first reg 11/83 is a little odd.. thanks!

As normal here’s a few pointers for years of the parts.
Check all glass for date stamps
The vin plate won’t be a normal landrover one.(that’s if it has 1. Can’t see it in the correct place)

As for France.... where about?

You should have a chassis number or vin tag to get an MOT.
It should be on top of the brake pedal/servo.
(It’s not there.;))
Hope that receipt is good.....

We all Will give you help finding numbers & giving good advise.

Oh the nice part of France :)

I have all the old mot’s, known ownership since a receipt from 2011, must be something somewhere! The quest begins.. I appreciate all the help I can get.

Hi not to be negative you might have problems getting it registered in France not sure if at that age it will need a c of c to get registered or to get CT (French MOT) looks a great project

Yeah I know a fair bit about this, because it’s showing over 30 years I qualify as classic so no COC but full Dreal test needed. At least I believe! Not straight forward but possible. COC’s only came out in the 90’s

Think you are right, not sure what will happen if no chassis number on it, might need to get it stamped before, like a lot of these things i think it depends on the guy doing the inspection and how he sees the rules, hope it goes well
