I picked up my first Landy yesterday. Very excited! It drives great but has a ton of small issues!

It's a 1994 110 Station wagon. 200tdi.

Bouncy speedo, (cable ordered), quite a few missing bolts (will replace) No headlining and 1 missing sunvisor. 12v socket doesn't work. Worlds slowest wipers that sometimes stop. 4 doors that need replacing/repairing and won't lock properly. No locking fuel cap. Turn Signal bulb in trailer picture. Bonnet pull is on cable through the grill etc etc.

But.............. Solid chassis new gearbox new crossmember and callipers/discs and full service history as well.

However the main issue is it has no fan! I don't really drive in traffic and I've not seen the temp go over about 1/3 but what's the quickest and easiest way to resolve this!

Thanks,

Wes

Buy a fan...kenlowe fans are quite popular, means that they can be set to run when engine is hot, rather than all the time like the factory fitted viscous fan does

With that list though I'm looking for a cheap option. Surley a bolt on viscous fan from someone will solve my problem for less!

12v socket doesn't work. - check it for muck, mine didnt work, full of crap at the bottom.

Worlds slowest wipers that sometimes stop. - prioritise this, probably just the spiral and wiper boxes needs taking out and cleaning up, lube and replace, if you dont sort it the motor will burn out and cost more

4 doors that need replacing/repairing and won't lock properly. strip the door cards, clean and lube soprts most problems, may need to replace barrles, cheap fix, repair if poss is cheaper than fix, will last longer too, I have a 12 month old door on the back of mine thats pinholed already

No locking fuel cap. cheap enough.

Turn Signal bulb in trailer picture. doesnt work, or on all the time?????

Bonnet pull is on cable through the grill etc etc.

leave it for now, unless your towing a big load, ther 200s cooled well enough not to need one, or pick up a 12V one form a scrappy, wire it to a switch, cheapest method.

Worth checking you fuse box and wiring if your lights dont work and the 12V is out.

When I got mine I had loads of little electrical niggles, worth having it checked. Save a lot of hassle down the line.

Maybe. Mine has never had a viscous fan while I've had it, though seeing others I prefer my electric fan as I have more room in the engine bay (no need to keep removing it to access things), and improves performance in winter on cold starts.

If you're looking at doing it up and keeping it, take it slightly slower and do things properly. I'd suggest the ~£100 you'd pay for fan would be a good spend. Otherwise, look at local scrap yard. I'm sure theres plenty of cars whos fan would fit.

Thanks guys, I'm planning on keeping it for many years! I restored a few cars in the past but this is my daily driver so will be doing it as it goes. I need to write a big list in the wanted section but need to get to 50 posts!

Put an electric fan on, a trip to a breakers a frontera fan fits perfect cable tie it on and put a switch I the cab. Saying that I run a 200tdi for 2 years quite a bit of towing and only switched the fan on occasionally for peace of mind the needle never went up!

For use in the UK Defenders tend to be over cooled.

They have to cope with low range in deep sand in red hot temps in deserts so pottering along a Tarmac road in 15c heat is nothing :)

Stick an electric one on unless you do the deserts or very heavy towing etc
