Brought a new SIII and have some various questions;
1. What kind of serivce intervals on the 2.2 petrol given she will do about 1500 miles per year approx
2. What type of engine oil would you recommend.
3. Whats the consequence of leaving the free wheel hubs on the 4x4 setting when she is in 2 wheel mode.
4. There is a water leak ( when it rains and she is stationary ) between the door top and bottom door juction is this water coming in through the window slides or the actual junction? Any cures besides buying new doors?
Finally the most embarassing question, when closing the doors is it better to slam the door shut on the latch or lift the handle/ latch and close it gently. It seems to close better when its slammed but I don't want to do long term damage.

Phoenix.

1. Constant servicing:D
Or check out the Haynes book of lies

2. Mineral multigrade 10w/40 to 20w/50 (Again Haynes book of lies)

3. If you leave the FW hubs engaged you will be turning over the front axel drive chain and therefore using power and fuel.
Note its a good thing to once in a while to stop it from seizing up.

4. Welcome to owning a landy.
They all leak (Moving or not)
If you slam the door be careful that the glass doesn't fall out (Rotted window channel).

Ps
2.2?
maybe 2.25?

Aye, well done on your fine purchase. My 75 ser 3 went for three years recently without any mechanical intervention from me or anyone else. Other than new plugs and oil/air filters. i used it as my daily driver doing 50 miles daily with a back full of dogs/shooting gear etc. no problem at all. Recently its needed a new starter motor/solenoid and the timing adjusted. On that note, I would keep the points in good order cos if its timing is a bit out it can cause starting dramas. Leaking is curable i suppose but why bother... Hope you enjoy your Rover

About 1500 mile intervals then;)

2. What type of engine oil would you recommend.

A slippery oily one, seriously tho, it depends on the engine mileage, a mineral based, slightly heavier oil for older engines, go with good quality - as you should for any engine you care about!

3. Whats the consequence of leaving the free wheel hubs on the 4x4 setting when she is in 2 wheel mode.

I'd only engage them now & again as said before.

4. There is a water leak ( when it rains and she is stationary ) between the door top and bottom door juction is this water coming in through the window slides or the actual junction? Any cures besides buying new doors?

If you fix it how will the water drain out!!

Close gently, slamming is always going to cause wear, either that or re-hang the doors etc. so you dont need to slam it.

Well, that's what I'd do, but to be honest there's a lot more years of landy experience on this forum than I've got!

Happy Landying!
