hi to everyone,i am a new disco owner and have a question 4 you. i have bought a 2001 td5 es auto, when i press the accelerater it lets out what can only be described as a hiss before it actually moves.is this the norm and if so could you tell me what it is. thankyou
yes it does creep on flat or in traffic, but it hisses when you start to accelerate again after slowing down,i was told that its the turbo that makes the noise and nothing to worry about
just been out and tried all that,it drives spot on,changes gear when it should,it tickes over at 750 rpm,the hiss comes in at 1000 rpm and then it drives away and doesnt hiss anymore until revs have dropped to tick over and you start off again

You might just want to check the turbo hoses etc make sure there are no air leaks (I wouldn't say mine 'hisses') even if I floor it up a hill with my caravn on the back I can hardly hear the turbo, even with a window open ???
I know Defenders tend to have a turbo hiss, but Discos have a bit more under bonnet sound proofing (or should have)
Just a thought, I take it your hasn't been 'chipped' or had the Turbo pressure tweaked up ??
not that im aware of,its a one lady owner from new with full main dealer history,i have looked through all papers that came with it and they are just the usual service records, tyre reciepts etc,it might just be me thats hearing strange noises as this is my first landy after driving hyundai trajet for last 5 yrs.i will get the hoses checked out for leaks and report my findings
had it checked out today,no air leaks or anything like that so it must be me,
only other thing i will do is wait till i see another disco at asda and compare that one to mine to see if does the same.
