Thanks everyone for the advice. The vendor who sold me the car, has stopped communicating. I will look into getting some hangers put on. And get a honest opinion if it's worth it. I have concerns over the chassis and bulkhead as a whole. Is the bulk head an MOT failure point?

It does sound like you need someone in your area who knows series land rovers. May be someone on here who could have a look.

If you follow the suggestions from Wildefalcon, it is relatively easily fixed at a reasonable cost. While unfortunate it is far from a death knell in my opinion, though I understand your frustration. All of us have been in a similar place at some point. Old vehicles nearly always have some surprises after purchase until you get on top of them. Even when fixed, Land Rovers are 1940s technology and require regular attention to keep them roadworthy. As the saying goes: "Land Rover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948".

Spring hangers are £20 each or less, so no biggie, if you get someone around to weld at your place you could have all the work done, bar the welding. Jack the vehicle up, put the chassis on axle stands, undo the bolts, drop the axle away, (carefully) cut off the old ones, tidy up the chassis so the new one fit and clamp in place.

Ensure the weld point is immaculate and then all the welder has to do is zip around with the MIG. You can then paint and reassemble.

A days work if you take it really slow. Buy a 4.5 inch angle grinder and a box of 1mm disks, and a flap wheel, if you don't have.

Agree , you get to the point where you embrace and look forward to the improvements you can do, parts are cheap compared with modern cars and you and son now have a project to work on together ,
Perhaps also check the other end hangers are in correct position and would like to see more pics of your concerns , I’m no welder but bought a cheap mig and managed to change two footwells, rear tub floor and many other jobs with each one giving you confidence for the next , the green bible manuals are excellent allowing you to maintain pretty much all of t(e vehicke
