We are about to buy a new Land Rover Defender 110 xs. Is that a mistake? Should we be looking out for a good used one instead?

We thought to get new, 'cos they don't seem to depreciate like other cars...and we have never had a brand new car before either. :)

I bought my 110 XS UW new 2 years ago.
No regrets - 3 years worry-free motoring.

You've got too much free and available funding, don't buy it on tick the interest exceeds the amount saved on lower depreciation.

I paid cash, no tick.
I took a £12k hit on the 2 year old Nissan Pathfinder that I P/X'd.

If you can afford it buy new but shop around , there is a ridiculous difference in price and attitudes to discount, then as a check look at one year old vehicles from the same and don`t just look at main dealers even for new.
I bought a one year old 110 TD5 XS which had been part exchanged in, with 3086 miles on the clock and all the options which cost a fortune - I definitely saved money on the options against new, they had almost no effect on the price of the car at 1 year old versus comparables, but 9 years (and 85000 miles) on I still kind of wish I`d foregone the options and bought new, would have been about an £8k differential back then.
