hi guys. ive just realised im blowing out white smoke, even when ticking over, not lots and lots just a bit, but constantly. i think this as happend since i have been going through lots of water at frickley on sunday, any areas for me to check ??

cheers mate, didnt think water in would have done that. will check it out tomoro after work and report back. thnks for the quick reply

have no silencer mate, its a str8 thru stainless exhaust. its a 200tdi lreg. dam i hope its not the head gasket. is there any ways of checking this ??

think its the plastic one, standard one anyway, never been changed, theres still loads of power and it revs exellent.

If you take the oil filler cap off the rocker cover and look on the underside of it. If there is a lot of creamy white gunge on it or if you can see down into the rocker cover and see any creamy white gunge it a good indication that your head gasket has gone. You can also tell if the coolant level has dropped in the vehicle or your having to constantly keep topping it up. Best indication would be a drop in coolant level as cheap crappy oil can cause the oil to foam in the rocker cover........

hiys mate, thanks for that, im going to check for the creamy stuff at the weekend. also just noticed that the temp seems to be getting higher than normal 3/4 on the temp gauge, also the water lever does seem to drop and have to top it up, and still getting white smoke when fireing her up. cleaned all the air filter etc but still same problem.

how expensive would the head gasket renew be ????????

If you find it IS the HG, get them to check the head for cracks at the same time. In my long but not necessarily typical experience the white smoke thing has always been a cracked head (three times out of three, but none of those on a TDi motor).

cheers mate, have got the disco booked in some time this week for a pressure test at the garage to see if it is the head gasket. i have checked the cover where u put the oil in and it seems ok, no white oil, all nice and black and runny.

just removed intercooler and all air supply stuff. looks like there has been water in the intercooler pipes with traces of dried out dust. and watery brown pipes. INSIDE that looks to have dried there. intercooler was also covered in crap so have cleaned it out too. will report back soon.
