It's easy to tell whether a disco 2 came out of the factory with a cat fitted by checking the vin. The 8th digit is either a 8 for cat fitted or 9 for no cat fitted, as per Rave CD. Whether mot testers will use or know this depends on individual testers I suppose. EGR valve missing is a fail. No removal of covers on vehicle to check if present though. Unfortunately if you look at front of engine where EGR should be you can just see where it is or isn't, just visible even with engine cover in place. Well you can on my 2002 td5.
I have removed my cat, centre box and egr plus had ECU remapped
I'm still to decide whether to refit any of the above for this years mot in September, considering it has always passed with flying colours,(same friendly garage for past 10 years)
Not worried about smoke as no DPF fitted to a td5.
