Hi all, I'm new here looking at buying an auto Freelander 2 as my new family car.
Have a budget of around £10k. Was wondering if you guys could point out common faults to look for upon inspection.
Heard rear diff is one of the more common faults.
Ideally would love an HSE/T model as I think they look fantastic, seen a few in budget with around 80k miles around 2009/10 model year.
Just thought I'd ask actual owners about their experience buying used at higher mileages etc and what to expect.
Looking forward to getting into LR ownership, thanks guys

I suspect all of your questions have been asked before and answered.
A small point of order, we have many female member so posts that start "Hi Guys" can get quite a bit of stick. Best to say Hi Folks or Hi Guys & Galls. :)

Thanks for the tip mate, I've had a little browse through the Freelander 2 section and can't find many threads about reliability horror stories etc, it seems they are fairly reliable, which is great to hear.
You always hear about the Land Rover horror stories mostly from people who have never owned one lol, but I'm glad to see the Freelander 2 is one of Land Rovers more reliable vehicles at this price point.
Now to hunt for a nice one, looking forward to getting to know all you guys and gals, thanks again

Hey welcome, loving my FL2 I went for the 2007 se, yes it has 140k but I know every 150k timing belt needs done or 10 years. Things I've done on mine since I bought were tyres, full service (don't bother with k&n air filter) the gear solenoid needed adjusting and the rear brakes. Parts are reasonably priced. The spec is good for se. Be aware that it will be harder to update satnav now the older they get. I heard rumours there can be issues with leaking sunroofs.

However if you look after your vehicle it will be fine.
 
Welcome to the forum, someone on my street has an F2 in white on an 11 plate definitely looks the business. Never spoke to the owner but see it passing and parked up, never seen it in bits on the drive so thats a bonus!
Thanks for the reply mate, and yes they do look the buisness especially in HSE, HST spec. Much prefer the shape and side profile compared to the newer disco sport

Thanks for the tip, I always service my cars every year, I get a bit ocd with making sure everything is serviced and up to date, hopefully that will help me down the line.
I'm hoping to find one with cambelt service already done, if not I'll try to factor it in for the asking price.
Great to hear that there are a lot of higher mileage examples still on the road running well

She runs well cambelt and service at jlr is about a k

Welcome, the transfer box on the gearbox is a good one. Look for a rusty line(wait for it).. Between the transfer box and the front diff where they meet up, any oil there also indicates that the sleeve that mates the diff to the transfer box has chewed the seal on the diff/gearbox.
The diffs are usually down to the wrong oil and or an un serviced haldex. ;)
Door locking mechanisms also.
The drivers fails first and then the others follow depending if the locking/unlocking system opens only the drivers door first. :)
