thanks for the offer g man, much appreciated - really..

apologies mintcherrie!!

I will contact trading standards, it was a private sale, so I think Id have to take out a personal claim against him etc... if it was a garage id be back in a shot.

sorry guys, im in eastbourne! Gav, I dont really have the technical know how or tools to start dismantling the engine!

i think grant's (wrxfifer) post says it all!!! you dont need much know how on these engines as they are basic!!

once all the tripe is removed from the top the engine is as basic as it gets!!!

its up to you but certainly worth considering, taking plugs out is the minimum you need to do to asses the next course of action!!

sorry to hear that fifer, there were just no signs.. when the head went on my rover 200 i could really tell, steam, overheating etc... no, ive had a great response from guys and gals, i was hoping to ask trivail questions about wondow actuators and air con..... oh well... lol

the aircon can be fixed for less than a fiver if its the common problem, tiny holes in the top corner of the condensor, under the slam panel. a job you could do while waiting for the heads to be skimmed!

yes my story is almost the same as yours and i have never ever tampered with engines!!
i just seen the options as get rid for nothing lose out totally as i swapped mine for a decent car or try my damdest to get it going and i have made progress i just done a bit at a time and took pictures of stuff and put on here your not long in getting answers

That wrxfifer is an inspiration to us all:praise:....ready to hold his hand up and admit lack of knowledge of the P38 and yet get stuck in with plenty of help (And ribbing!!!) from people on here..and he's getting there. What is lacking in experience is more than compensated by enthusiasm.
Take the approach "It aint gonna beat me" and you will get there and gain loads of experience at the school of hard knocks. When it's running 100%..you will be more than happy with it.

I reckon he bought it and got wrxfifer to sort it out for him if thats the case!!!!!
:hysterically_laughi

im an inspiration! i wouldint say that lol im just muddling along with sheer ignorance but without the help from this site and all the great people ill be honest i probably would have cut my losses

Well you're certainly keeping people busy thinking and that's not a bad thing!!

Keep on posting, we are all taking your motor as a personal challenge...I am sure that if you lived somewhere more central you would be inundated with volunteers eager to help and costing you a fortune in tea bags etc.!!

i still have loads of teabags and biscuits if anyone is willing to take the wrx challenge as thats been a month now and its still not right

i wouldint go that far im 30 mins from edinburgh why dont some of you good guys move up to the land of fixing range rovers!!
its so much fun at my house its car fixing of some kind every day!!
