What are your thoughts about fitting a new hydraulic lifter on an old cam? 3.5 carb.

I've got the intake off at the moment to fix oil leaks at the front and rear of the block. Someones been in there before and used no sealant in the block corners. While I'm in there I was wondering wether to replace a lazy lifter. It sometimes ticks away on startup for a minute or two then pumps up.

I'm aware you can get an issue with fitting new to old in that if it doesn't start spinning correctly and bedding into the cam it will flatten the lobe. The cam actually looks very very good at the moment.

If I do fit it I'll run it up to 2000rpm straight away to bed it in. Worth the risk?

The other thing I did think about trying is swapping the lifter internals old for new and keeping the body. Hence keeping the wear pattern. Not sure if anyones tried this?

15 k and the lifter will dish, matched cam and lifters only cure and remember lifter preload
 
I think the lifter may be bad because the Landy sat for about 5 years before I got to it. I get the impression that lifter was fully compressed for all that time. Unless I take it out and soak it in brake cleaner for a while and keep blasting it out with the airline.
 
just fit a new set , if the worst happens youll only need to fit a cam and set of tappets at a later date

I'm sure someones been in this engine before. Cam looks very good. Valley is super clean, Lifters are unmarked. Rockers and pedestals are bright and clean. It was sat for several years before I got it. Who would put money into it then lay it up.

If you look at cam lobes a good indication of contact is colour
 
Well here it is. I think it looks clean but others may tell me different. 146000 on the clock.
